When your heart grows cold by Marie-Esther When your heart grows cold by Marie-Esther
Mixed media (watercolours, coloured pencils, pen) on thick smooth paper, size A3

Keeping up with my personal portraits and with the idea of overlaying faces.

So once again, I used two different reference pictures for this one, this time by the amazing GretaTu :icongretatu: . I'm in love with her pictures (expecially those of this model), so check out her gallery for more inspiring photography!

This one is meant to be a sort of icon of rationality, the way I see it. Geometric, cold. The rationality we need when people, or even our emotions hurt us.

Reason saves us as much as it can hold us back.

"I see a ship in the harbor,
I can and shall obey,

But if it wasn't for your misfortune,
I'd be a heavenly person today.

And I thought I was mistaken,
and I thought I heard you speak

Tell me, how do I feel
Tell me now, how should I feel.

Now I stand here waiting...

I thought I told you to leave me
when I walked down to the beach.

Tell me how does it feel, when your heart grows cold"

Blue Monday - New Order…

This is a very beautiful, emotional piece. I can clearly see the emotion in the woman's eyes. The shading and lighting is great, if not amazing. Though a little more of a blurred look right below the chin could have made it a bit better.
The contrast between colors really helps the eyes stand out too. Yet with the gray, it gives it a sort of " lost grace". Adding blue in hair made it stand out more, very beautiful this is.
It's very original, as far as i know. I've never seen anything like it. And the detail you put into the hair and eyes, it's very real.
And the other face there, When i look at it it gives me the feeling she's reflecting back on an old self, or maybe an old friend or loved one. Either way, a great feeling of loss and sorrow reflects in her eyes. Amazing, beautiful, passionate.
This is one of the most inspirational works i've seen in a long time.

This is one of those instant classics. It has a very intriguing, vintage look. That dark blue makes it so cold and intense mixed with those hard black lines. Very angry emotion in that face. Bravo, beautiful!
